Young Planners Conference: Launch

Thursday night’s launch in CBRE’s offices in the City, saw Stuart Robinson, Chief Planner at CBRE launch proceedings and celebrating the enthusiasm of young planners.

Rob Krzyszowski, chair of the London Young Planners Committee welcomed delegates and used the opportunity to launch the Young Planners Positive Solutions initiative, which celebrates the work being done by young planners across the country.

Roberta Blackman Woods MP, the shadow minister for planning the addressed delegates stating that the current administration has caused confusion in the industry with the new growth and infrastructure bill contradicting the localism agenda. Rather than “getting the planners off our back to assist economic growth” planners will be part of the solution to get the economy back on track. Blackman Woods, clearly an advocate of planners, said that all young planners should speak up for what is an honourable profession. Speaking of the NPPF she stated that a Labour administration would make some tweaks, but would seek to implement a National Spatial Plan, something the RTPI has been calling for.

Finally, Trudi Elliott thanked the organisers and sponsors and said that she was pleased to see so many people investing in their future through professional development.

The event was followed by drinks and networking.
