Workshop 3: Creating an Inclusive Built Environment

This workshop led by Kelly Aldridge of JMP enabled delegates to think about the concepts of inclusive and accessible environments, whilst also providing the theoretical and legal framework. A presentation was followed by an interactive team based task where delegates were provided with base plans for a leisure centre in London’s West End and a redevelopment scenario and were asked to consider design solutions to promote inclusivity. The final submitted plans were presented to the groups and they were asked to critique these based on their solutions. A photograph exercise followed with the whole workshop group providing comments on access and inclusivity issues from varying London locations.  This enabled the group to think quite laterally about the subject matter and to test how they would as a team provide inclusive solutions within the built environment. This was a very engaging and informative workshop; many thanks go to Kelly for organising and leading this session.
