A Year to Go: RTPI London Planning Conference delegates preview the Olympic Site

RTPI President Richard Summers, and RTPI London Conference delegates get an exclusive tour of the Olympic site, led by ODA and OPLC

Exactly one year until the first events of the 2012 London Olympics will be taking place, RTPI London Planning Conference delegates got the opportunity to get a sneak preview of how the site is looking. The tour was led by Vivienne Ramsay Director of Planning Decisions at the Olympic Delivery Authority and who were able to give first hand insight into some of the issues in the planning and delivery of the Olympic Park, whilst Niall McNevin, Director of Planning and Sustainability at the Olympic Park Legacy Company, was able to give an overview of how the park will be transformed into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that will one day be home to over 13,000 residents.

Delegates got to see up close the Olympic Parklands that have transformed the forgotten network of rivers and canals that cross the site, the Stirling Prize nominated Velodrome, Athletes Village, Aquatics Centre (that was unveiled to the world the day before) and the Olympic Stadium.
